United Water uses groundwater sources for all of its supply. Treatments used are chlorination, pH adjustment, corrosion control and aeration. There are six wells located in two well fields with a treatment facility in both well fields. United Water customers receive their water entirely from groundwater supplies. The utility has six active gravel packed wells, which are at depths of 45 feet to 100 feet, with capacity ranging from 400 gallons per minute (gpm) to 2,000 gpm, with a total available supply of nearly 7.5-MGD. At United Water we take great pride in our ability to provide you with drinking water that meets or surpasses all state and federal standards. We constantly monitor the quality of drinking water—before, during and after the purification process. In fact, we perform tests on more than 130 different substances each year. We report the results to state and federal agencies as well as the local health department. Our annual Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) provides detailed information about your water quality. You can download a copy of our CCR or you can call us at 401 789 0271 or email us. Consumer Confidence Report To view or print, please download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.
We take many steps to ensure the safety of both the raw water supply and the finished drinking water. But we must be prepared for any emergency. So, there is a plan in place to notify you if a hazardous condition should arise in the water supply. The Rhode Island Department of Health will use radio, TV, newspapers or mobile public address units to keep you informed. Posters and door-to-door written notices will be used when appropriate.
