United Water Donates $75,000 to Union City School District's Technology Program

Donation is one of the company’s largest corporate gifts ever awarded

Bob Iacullo, President of United Water New Jersey, offers a $75,000 donation to Union City Board of Education President Carlos Perez, as Blossom Peretz, Director of the Office of the Rate Payer Advocate, looks on.
Englewood, NJ, February 28, 2001 -- In keeping with its commitment to promote technology and community partnerships, United Water has donated $75,000 to the Union City School District. Robert Iacullo, President of United Water New Jersey presented the check today to Gary Ramella, Executive Director of Technology Information Systems, during an award ceremony.

Iacullo said this is one of the largest financial contributions United Water has made to a school in its neighboring community. “These funds will certainly enrich the students in the district and it highlights United Water’s dedication to supporting education.”

United Water worked with the New Jersey Department of Education and the Division of the Ratepayer Advocate in identifying two school districts that would most benefit from financial assistance. The Englewood School District will receive an identical $75,000 grant from United Water. Blossom Peretz, Director of the Division of the Ratepayer Advocate, said, “the objective is to provide financial support to a district that may not have the resources to develop a comprehensive technology program.”

Bob Iacullo and Blossom Peretz look on as a lesson on high tech stitching takes place. Seated at the sewing machine is Stephanie Crespo, a senior at Emerson H.S. who plans to attend F.I.T. next year. In the back are sophomores Paola Alvarez (2nd from left) and Yajaira Cepeda. At left is Sandra Nasta, the fashion design instructor.

“Through its generous donation, United Water has shown a dedicated interest in supporting and advancing the development of education within its service territory. We hope United Water’s gift sets a precedent for other businesses to support technology education in Hudson and Bergen Counties,” Peretz said.

The Union City School District has earmarked its funds for purchasing multimedia projectors. Ramella said, “Our greatest need is to give teachers access to multimedia projectors that will allow the entire class to easily see and hear computer based learning activities. This United Water donation will allow us to purchase at least 27 projectors.”

United Water New Jersey provides water service to approximately 750,000 residents in Bergen and Hudson counties. More information about United Water is available at www.unitedwater.com/uwnj.
