United Water New Jersey Issues Report On Drinking Water For Franklin Lakes System

Water quality is better than state and federal standards

Harrington Park, NJ, July 2, 2000 --  United Water Rahway customers should be on the lookout for their Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) on drinking water quality. The report, mandated by federal and state agencies, shows that the company’s water surpasses the government requirements in most areas. “We believe this report is an important tool in educating our customers about the quality of their tap water,” said Joe Macula, vice president.

United Water has always made its test results available to customers upon request. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) mandate that water companies issue a report of this type by July 01.

Macula explained that the EPA/NJDEP rule mandates the content of the report. For example, any detected contaminant must be listed even though it is detected within the limits of the regulation. A contaminant may be a naturally occurring or man-made substance. There is also required language for specific health effects, bottled water and detected substances.

“We have tried to keep our report as customer friendly as possible given the complex requirements,” said Macula. “If customers have questions about their water we invite them to call our customer service center at 1 800 422 8969.” Copies of the report are also downloadable from the Internet at www.unitedwater.com/uwnj/wtrspply.htm
