Englewood, NJ, February 28, 2001 -- In keeping with its commitment to promote technology and community partnerships, United Water has donated $75,000 to the Englewood School District. Robert Iacullo, President of United Water New Jersey, presented the check today to Dr. Joyce F. Baynes, Schools Superintendent during an award ceremony.

Iacullo said this is one of the largest financial contributions United Water has made to a school in its neighboring community. “These funds will certainly enrich the students in the district and it highlights United Water’s dedication to promoting education.”
United Water worked with the New Jersey Department of Education and the Division of the Ratepayer Advocate to identify two districts that would most benefit from financial assistance. The Union City School District will receive an identical $75,000 grant from United Water. Blossom Peretz, Director of the Division of the Ratepayer Advocate, said, “the objective is to provide financial support to a district that may not have the resources to develop a comprehensive technology program.”

“Through its generous donation, United Water has shown a dedicated interest in supporting and advancing the development of education within its service territory. We hope United Water’s gift will set a precedent for other businesses to support technology education in Bergen and Hudson Counties,” Peretz said.

Dr. Baynes said the funds are earmarked for an innovative computer lab available to students and the entire community.

“We are grateful to United Water for their generous contribution,” said Baynes. ”The computer lab will allow students easier access t o technology, provide an after school center for homework and research, and serve members of the community who do not have access to technology at home.”

United Water New Jersey provides water service to approximately 750,000 residents in Bergen and Hudson counties. More information about United Water is available at www.unitedwater.com/uwnj.
